Sociedad Industrial Dominicana, C. por A. (SID) was founded on July 1st, 1937 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, by Jesús Armenteros Seisdedos and José María Bonetti Burgos, as a company to be engaged in the manufacturing of edible vegetable oils.
Through the years, “La Manicera”, as the company is commonly called,has been continually expanding to offer Dominican consumers a wide range of products including different types of oils, margarines and laundry soaps.
On June 1st, 1971, SID enters into a Royalty Agreement with Unilever Export Limited, and in the 1980’s it ventures in the development of agribusiness projects based on oil palms, tropical flowers and citrus trees.
In the commercial field, in the 1990’s SID becomes the distributor for the Dominican Republic of a number of brands of renowned companies including Kellogg’s, Kimberly Clark, Hershey’s, Eridania-Behim Say (Koipe), HaagenDazs, General Mills, and Novartis, among others.
In 1999, it merges with another large Dominican food producer, Mercalia, S.A., giving rise to MercaSID, S.A.
